About PDF1
PDF1 is a small, independent set of free PDF tools. They do the everyday jobs (merging, splitting, compressing, converting, signing and password-protecting PDFs) without asking you to upload anything.
Why in the browser?
The PDFs people need to change are often private: contracts, bank statements, medical letters, ID scans. Most free PDF websites process them on their own servers. PDF1 runs the same jobs inside your browser tab with open-source engines (pdf-lib, Mozilla’s pdf.js and qpdf compiled to WebAssembly), so your files never leave your device. It also means no queues, no sign-up and no daily limits.
What we don’t do
Some conversions, such as Word or Excel to PDF, need heavy server software to do well. Rather than offer a version that uploads your files or gives poor results, we leave those out. Each tool page also says plainly what it can’t do.
The mPDF guides
This domain, mpdf1.com, once hosted the home page of mPDF, an open-source PHP library for making PDFs from HTML. Developers still follow old links here, so we write current, independent guides to it. Read the story of the domain.
PDF1 is an independent site. It is not affiliated with the mPDF project. The mPDF project lives on GitHub.
