Your files
Every PDF1 tool processes files inside your browser. When you choose a file, it is read into the memory of your browser tab, processed by code that has already been downloaded to your device, and handed back to you as a download. Your files are never sent to us or to anyone else. We have no upload endpoint and no storage for documents.
This is enforced as well as promised. Our pages are served with a Content Security Policy that only allows network connections to this website and to our analytics provider, so even a bug could not send your document elsewhere. You can check this yourself: load a tool, disconnect from the internet, and it keeps working.
Passwords and signatures
Passwords you type into Protect PDF or Unlock PDF, and signatures you draw or type, stay in the tab in the same way. They are not stored and are gone when you close the tab.
Statistics
We count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors and does not track you across sites. It tells us which pages are visited, not who you are or what files you used.
Cookies
PDF1 sets no cookies and needs no account.
Hosting
The site is static and served by our hosting provider, whose servers log standard request information (such as IP address and requested page) for security and reliability. Those logs never contain your documents, because documents are never sent.
