How to pDF metadata editor
- Choose a PDF to see its current metadata.
- Edit any field, or press Clear every field to remove them all.
- Press Save metadata and download the updated PDF.
Good to know
PDFs store metadata twice: in the document information dictionary, and often in an XMP packet as well. Acrobat and some other readers show the XMP values when both exist, so editing only one leaves the old values visible. With the box ticked, PDF1 removes the XMP copy so your edits are what everyone sees.
Only the metadata changes. Pages, text, links, form fields and bookmarks stay exactly as they were.
Why metadata matters
Privacy. The Author field often holds the full name from the computer that created the file, and Creator and Producer reveal the software. A CV exported years ago may still say “Microsoft Word – CV_old_final2.docx” in its title. Check before you publish or send a document to strangers.
Search and tabs. Browsers show the Title field in the tab instead of the file name, and search engines and document systems can use it as the PDF’s name. A clear title such as “2026 Price List” looks more professional than “Untitled-1”.
Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. PDF1 runs the whole job inside your browser tab with JavaScript and WebAssembly. The page has no upload endpoint, and its security policy blocks connections to other servers, so the file stays on your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
Does removing metadata remove everything identifying?
It removes the document properties. Names can also appear in the content, in comments and tracked changes from the original app, or in the file name itself, so check those too.
Why does my PDF still show the old title?
If you unticked the XMP option, readers that prefer XMP keep showing the old title. Run it again with the box ticked.
Can I change the creation date?
Yes. Edit the Created and Modified fields, or clear them to remove the dates.
