How to resize PDF pages to A4

    1. Choose a PDF. PDF1 shows the page sizes it has now.
    2. Pick the new size, orientation and margin.
    3. Press Resize pages and download.

    Good to know

Each page is placed on the new page as a scaled vector copy, so text and drawings stay sharp at any zoom and nothing is turned into an image. The proportions are kept: if the shapes differ, as with Letter to A4, the content is centred with a little extra white space.

Links and form fields don’t carry over to the resized pages. If you need them, resize the original document in the app that made it instead.

    Letter vs A4

US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches (216 × 279 mm). A4 is 210 × 297 mm: a little narrower and taller. A Letter page scaled to A4 keeps its width almost exactly and gains about 1.5 cm of space at the top and bottom. Going the other way, an A4 page is scaled down about 6% to fit on Letter. Printers set up for one size often crop or shrink the other, which is why many offices and portals ask for A4 or Letter specifically.

    Mixed page sizes

Scans and merged documents often contain pages of different sizes, which print unevenly and look messy on screen. Choose “Match each page” for orientation to keep landscape pages landscape, or force portrait to make every page the same.

    Questions

    Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. PDF1 runs the whole job inside your browser tab with JavaScript and WebAssembly. The page has no upload endpoint, and its security policy blocks connections to other servers, so the file stays on your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.

    Will the text get smaller?

Only if the page shrinks. From Letter to A4 the scale is almost 1:1. From A3 to A4, content is reduced to about 71%, as when printing A3 on A4 paper.

    Can I add margins?

Yes. Small and Large margins scale the content down a little more and leave white space around it, which helps printers that can’t print to the edge.

    Does it crop anything?

No. Content is scaled to fit inside the new page, never cut off.
